Monday Musing

Late post.. A lot of crazy shit went down this year - Harambe (sorry, PETA), Muhammad Ali dying, Flynt's water crisis, Black Lives Matter taking off in momentum, and Donald Trump was elected President of the United Godforsaken States. That is still insane to hear aloud. Mulatto. Democrat. Female. I don't exactly fit the demographic Trump was aiming for but I was unprepared for the amount of people who landed in his camp. "Unprepared" could easily be replaced with "horrified/revolted/paralyzed with trepidation". The KKK were given a second wind (I nearly missed 'em in my lifetime! What a treat), the embodiment of the American woman was put back into her 80's secretary ensemble, and it was re-instilled in each of us that America is for everyone except Muslims and Mexicans. One thing that was particularly tough for me to digest was when facts stopped mattering. Rationality & logic quickly followed. 2016's current president-elect literally ...

Music MONDAY

As we start the week, I want to bring some attention to my man E-40, one of my all-time favorite rappers. You may also know him as E Feasible, 40 Water, or Earl Stevens. I absolutely love this guy and this is why: "You hear them talkin' salty 'bout (40)Water, don't just sit there, and let 'em murder mouf yo pahtna!" ("If we're friends, don't let people talk shit about me") "Where you be buyin yo hats from? - I buy 'em from Lids." "I don't fly private jets; I fly Southwest!" Hilarious.  He's as real and down-to-earth as you could possibly stay after twenty-five years in the rap game. Count up the albums. There have been twenty-two released to date, and as he says it himself - "I'm an old schooler and a new comer." From the countless collabo's with fellow legend Too Short, to pioneering his own wine label, the hustler turned investor can not be stopped. The Bay Area's finest is...

Thursday Theme - Barbecue!

It is after 8pm, and it is 85 degrees outside. So, we have been making full use of our excellent disposable barbecue I bought back in July, for the 4th of July. Cooking indoors with no a/c is not even an option right now.  I bought my cute little bbq for $13.99 at Ace Hardware. Granted, it does not have a cover. (I have sometimes created a makeshift one using aluminum foil). But for a perfectly efficient, cost-effective grill for those limited on space, it is such a treat.  I especially love cooking using Cowboy brand hardwood lump charcoal. Forgive my ignorance, but I had never known about these natural briskets until recently, and I love them. They have a nice flavor, and I really like the idea of using real wood to cook. There is something very homey and rustic about it.  Anyway, I hope everyone is staying cool (or warm) on this Thursday night. Happy almost Friday! >.<

Wednesday Wine & Write

For the past 11 days, I have been house sitting for a friend. This includes looking after a menagerie consisting of three dogs and one cat. From frozen peanut butter bones to afternoon drags (sometimes called "walks") near the local waterfall; I hope I have made good impressions on the pups. Buffy, the seventeen- yes -seventeen year old cat, who I've dubbed Buffy Willie Nelson, graces us with howling, child labor-sounding vocalizations at approximately 4:30 a.m. daily. She demands her Fancy Feast be delivered promptly at dinner, and that I mash it up into petite size pieces. I'm assuming this helps maintain for the tomcats. Charlie, who was described by the owners as the "poet" of the family has proved true to his description. He can often be found laying down alone in a dark bedroom, or listening by the door as I pee. He seems the sensitive type, that Charlie; a German Shepherd mix who is slightly addicted to sticks. Logan, I've found, is a war ha...
